Best PC games of 2026 you can already play

Scores are from Metacritic or OpenCritic and may change over time.

Resident Evil Requiem: the survival horror of the year

Capcom returns to Raccoon City with two protagonists: newcomer Grace Ashcroft and veteran Leon Kennedy. It came out on 27 February on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2, and on PC it holds a 92 on Metacritic. It's also one of the best optimised: the official recommended spec asks for an 8 GB RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600, a Core i7-8700 or Ryzen 5 5500 and 16 GB of RAM to play at 1080p and 60 fps with upscaling.

Forza Horizon 6: Japan as a playground

Playground Games takes the series to Japan with the biggest map in the franchise and seasons that change how the cars handle. It launched on 19 May on Xbox Series and PC (the PS5 version followed later) and has a 91 on OpenCritic. Mind your storage: it takes up 167 GB and requires an SSD.

Pragmata: Capcom's surprise

Capcom's new IP mixes shooting and robot hacking on a lunar station, with the android Diana as your companion. It came out on 17 April on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2, and sits at around 87 on OpenCritic. Its recommended spec is the same as Resident Evil Requiem's, although turning on ray tracing calls for a 12 GB RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT.

Crimson Desert: from a rocky launch to a must-play

The open world from Pearl Abyss, the makers of Black Desert, came out on 19 March on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. It got off to a bumpy start, but updates have improved it so much that it's now sold on Steam as Crimson Desert Enhanced, with new cutscenes and more voice acting. It's the game on this list that needs the most space: 180 GB on SSD.

007 First Light: Bond before he was 007

IO Interactive, the studio behind Hitman, tells the origin story of a young James Bond through stealth, action and gadgets. It launched on 27 May on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, with an 84 on Metacritic on PC. Its recommended processor is one of the most modern of the year: a Core i5-13500 or Ryzen 5 7600.

Halo: Campaign Evolved: the one that asks the most of your PC

The new version of the original Halo's campaign arrived on 28 July on PC, Xbox Series and, for the first time in the series, PS5 as well. It's the 2026 game with the highest recommended spec we've found: Ryzen 7 7700 or Core i7-12700K, 32 GB of RAM and an RX 9070 or RTX 3080 Ti. That's according to its official Steam page.

A strong September: The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha and Control Resonant

The Blood of Dawnwalker (3 September, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series) is the vampire RPG from Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by veterans of The Witcher 3, in which time is just another resource. Onimusha: Way of the Sword (4 September, PC and consoles) revives Capcom's samurai series with Miyamoto Musashi and has an 83 on Metacritic on PC. And Control Resonant (24 September, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series) continues Remedy's universe with Dylan Faden, Jesse's brother, as the protagonist.

Gears of War: E-Day: ray tracing is now mandatory

The prequel that tells the story of Emergence Day launched on 6 October on Xbox Series and PC (also on Game Pass), with no PS5 version. It sits at around 87-88 on the aggregators. The key detail for PC: even the minimum spec requires a graphics card with hardware ray tracing (RTX 2060, RX 6600 or better).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

This year's Call of Duty came out on 23 October on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2. It's one of the more accessible releases: the recommended spec asks for an RTX 3060, RX 6600 XT or Arc B580, a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700K and 16 GB, although you'll need 115 GB free on an SSD.

The year's indies and early access games

  • Mina the Hollower (29 May): the latest from Yacht Club Games, the team behind Shovel Knight. 91 on OpenCritic and runs on almost any PC.

  • Mewgenics (10 February): turn-based tactics and cat breeding from Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac) and Tyler Glaiel. 88 on Metacritic.

  • Slay the Spire 2 (in early access since 5 March): the sequel to the card roguelike that defined the genre.

  • Subnautica 2 (in early access since 14 May): be warned, its recommended spec asks for a Core i7-13700 or Ryzen 7 7700X and an RTX 3070.

Other 2026 releases that are also coming to PC

  • Nioh 3 (6 February, PC and PS5): 85 on Metacritic on PC.

  • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (19 March): the PC version of Kojima Productions' game.

  • DOOM: The Dark Ages, Revelations (7 July): a story expansion with new levels and demons. See how the base game performs on our DOOM: The Dark Ages page.

  • Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced (9 July): the new version of Ubisoft's pirate adventure.

  • Star Wars Zero Company (27 August): turn-based tactics that asks for 32 GB of RAM in its recommended spec.

  • Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (2 October): also requires hardware ray tracing and recommends 32 GB.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV (3 December)

Warhammer real-time strategy returns courtesy of KING Art and Deep Silver, exclusively on PC. It was pushed back from 17 September to improve performance and fix bugs, and will arrive on 3 December on Steam. Its store page doesn't list official requirements yet.

Path of Exile 2 1.0 (11 December)

Grinding Gear Games is ending early access for its free-to-play ARPG with version 1.0, which adds the Duelist class and the two missing acts. Its recommended spec is modest: RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT or Arc A770, Core i5-10500 or Ryzen 5 3700X and 16 GB.

What isn't coming to PC, what has no date and what's just a rumour

GTA VI: 19 November, consoles only

Rockstar is sticking with Grand Theft Auto VI for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to its official website. No PC version has been announced. A GamesBeat report based on four anonymous sources points to the first quarter of 2027, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed it, so treat it as a rumour. For reference, GTA V took about 18 months to reach PC and Red Dead Redemption 2 just over a year.

PlayStation exclusives with no PC version

Marvel's Wolverine (15 September) and Saros (30 April) came out on PS5 only. No PC version has been announced for either of them.

No date yet, or not in 2026

  • Witchbrook (Chucklefish): Steam still says 2026, but there's no specific date this late in the year.

  • Fable: no longer a 2026 game. It was delayed and comes out on 23 February 2027 on PC, Xbox Series and PS5.

  • Half-Life 3: rumour. It's been talked about for years, but Valve hasn't announced anything.

What PC you need for the most demanding games of 2026

These are the official recommended requirements each publisher lists on Steam, from most to least demanding. Many assume you'll be using upscaling (DLSS, FSR or XeSS).

  • Halo: Campaign Evolved: Ryzen 7 7700 or Core i7-12700K, 32 GB of RAM, RX 9070 or RTX 3080 Ti, 100 GB.

  • Star Wars Zero Company: Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 3700X, 32 GB, RTX 3080 or RX 7800 XT (1440p at 60 fps on high).

  • Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve: Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 GB, RTX 3070 or RX 6800, 150 GB and mandatory ray tracing.

  • Death Stranding 2: Core i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5700X, 16 GB, RTX 3070 or RX 6800, 150 GB.

  • Subnautica 2: Core i7-13700 or Ryzen 7 7700X, 16 GB, RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT.

  • The Blood of Dawnwalker: Core i7-11700K or Ryzen 7 5700X, 16 GB, RTX 4060, RX 7600 XT or Arc B580.

  • 007 First Light: Core i5-13500 or Ryzen 5 7600, 16 GB, RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT.

  • Gears of War: E-Day: Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K, 16 GB, RTX 5060, RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT, with mandatory ray tracing.

  • Forza Horizon 6: Core i5-12400F or Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB, RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT or Arc A580, 167 GB.

  • Crimson Desert: Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K, 16 GB, RX 6700 XT or RTX 2080, 180 GB.

  • Phantom Blade Zero: Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB, RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT.

What keeps cropping up in 2026's requirements

  • The reference graphics card is an RTX 3060 Ti or an RX 6700 XT. It appears in the recommended specs for Forza Horizon 6, 007 First Light, Gears of War: E-Day, Control Resonant and Phantom Blade Zero. If you're buying now, look for graphics cards with 12 GB of VRAM or more to give yourself some headroom.

  • Hardware ray tracing is now a minimum requirement in some games. Gears of War: E-Day and Ace Combat 8 require it, so GTX 10 and GTX 16 cards fall short.

  • 32 GB of RAM is starting to become the recommendation. Halo: Campaign Evolved, Star Wars Zero Company and Ace Combat 8 ask for it. You can play almost everything with 16 GB, but for a new PC, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM is the sensible choice. Bear in mind that memory has become more expensive: according to TrendForce, DRAM contract prices are still rising in late 2026 due to demand from AI servers.

  • SSD required, and lots of space. Almost all of them require an SSD, and Crimson Desert, Forza Horizon 6, Ace Combat 8 and Death Stranding 2 alone take up nearly 650 GB between them.

  • Windows 11 is now listed as the operating system in the requirements for Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, Onimusha and Halo: Campaign Evolved.

Two rough PC tiers for gaming in 2026

Our own guidelines, approximate and unofficial:

  • To play almost everything at 1080p with good quality: a current 6-core processor (on the level of a Ryzen 5 7600 or Core i5-13500), a ray-tracing-capable graphics card on the level of an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT or better, 16 to 32 GB of RAM and a 1 to 2 TB NVMe SSD.

  • For 1440p and the most demanding games (Halo: Campaign Evolved, Star Wars Zero Company): a processor on the level of a Ryzen 7 7700 or Core i7-12700K, a graphics card on the level of an RX 9070 or RTX 3080 Ti, 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB NVMe SSD.

Frequently asked questions

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not for now. Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version; some reports point to the first quarter of 2027, but they're just rumours.

Which 2026 game needs the most powerful PC?

Going by official recommended requirements, Halo: Campaign Evolved: Ryzen 7 7700 or Core i7-12700K, 32 GB of RAM and an RX 9070 or RTX 3080 Ti. It's followed by Star Wars Zero Company and Ace Combat 8, which also recommend 32 GB.

Can I play 2026's games with 16 GB of RAM?

Yes. 16 GB is the recommended amount for most of them, including Resident Evil Requiem, Forza Horizon 6 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Only a few recommend 32 GB, although for a new PC it's the most sensible amount.

Do I need a graphics card with ray tracing?

Increasingly, yes. Gears of War: E-Day and Ace Combat 8 require it even at minimum spec. NVIDIA RTX cards, Radeon RX 6000 or later and Intel Arc all support it, although it's best to start from the minimum each game lists.

Which PC games are coming out in November and December 2026?

The main ones are Football Manager 27 (10 November), Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV (3 December), Attack on Titan 3 (10 December) and Path of Exile 2 1.0 (11 December). Just before that, on 29 October, Phantom Blade Zero arrives.

How much disk space do 2026's games need?

A lot: Crimson Desert needs 180 GB, Forza Horizon 6 167 GB and Ace Combat 8 150 GB, and almost all of them require an SSD. To keep several installed, you're better off with a 2 TB NVMe SSD.
