RTX 50 vs Radeon RX 9000: a GeForce RTX 5090 and a Radeon RX 9070 XT head to head
In this article

If you are thinking about building or upgrading a gaming PC, the question of the moment is clear: RTX 50 vs Radeon RX 9000. NVIDIA and AMD have renewed their ranges with new architectures (Blackwell and RDNA 4) and, for the first time in years, the choice is not evident in all price ranges. In this guide we compare them range by range so that you make the right purchase.

What each generation brings new

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 (Blackwell)

The RTX 50 features GDDR7 memory, faster than the GDDR6 of the previous generation, and DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, which can generate up to three frames for each rendered frame. The RTX 5090 is the most powerful consumer card at the moment, with 32 GB of memory, and the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti, with 16 GB, are the most balanced options for playing in high 1440p and 4K.

AMD Radeon RX 9000 (RDNA 4)

AMD has focused RDNA 4 on the upper-mid range. The Radeon RX 9070 In the entry range is the RX 9060 XT, with 8 and 16 GB versions.

RTX 50 vs Radeon RX 9000, range by range

High-end: RTX 5090 and RTX 5080

Here AMD is not fighting this generation: there is no Radeon RX 9000 that competes with the RTX 5090 or the RTX 5080. If you want to play in 4K with maximum ray tracing, or use the PC for rendering and AI, the RTX 5090 is the reference, and the RTX 5080 offers an excellent 4K experience for much less.

Mid-high range: RTX 5070 Ti vs RX 9070 XT

It is the most interesting duel. In games without ray tracing, the RX 9070 XT is very close to the RTX 5070 Ti, sometimes ahead, and usually costs less. With intense ray tracing or path tracing, the RTX 5070 Ti clearly wins, and DLSS 4 with frame generation multiplies the FPS in supported games.

  • Choose the RX 9070

  • Choose the RTX 5070 Ti if you want high ray tracing, DLSS 4, and the best support for new games.

Mid-range: RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 Ti vs. RX 9070 and RX 9060 XT

The RTX 5070 performs very well in 1440p but has 12 GB of memory, which is just enough for the most demanding games of the coming years. The RX 9070 offers 16 GB and similar performance without ray tracing. For 1080p and 1440p on a budget, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RX 9060 XT 16GB are the two sensible options; Avoid the 8 GB versions if you play recent titles.

Ray tracing and scaling: DLSS 4 vs FSR 4

DLSS continues to be NVIDIA's biggest advantage: it is in hundreds of games, and the Multi Frame Generation of the RTX 50 can multiply the FPS in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Alan Wake 2. AMD's FSR 4 has made a huge leap in quality thanks to AI and is already close to DLSS, but it is still in fewer games. In terms of ray tracing, RDNA 4 cuts a lot of distance, but in path tracing NVIDIA is clearly still ahead.

Tip: Frame generation adds fluidity, but also some latency. In competitive shooters, prioritize real FPS and activate Reflex or Anti-Lag.

Consumption, temperature and power supply

The RTX 5090 can reach 575 W and requires a source of 1,000 W or more with a 12V-2x6 connector. The RTX 5080 and RX 9070 XT range between 300 and 360 W, so a good 850 W source is enough. The mid-ranges (RTX 5070, RX 9070, RTX 5060 Ti) work well with 650-750 W. In our workshop we test each PC 24 hours at maximum load so that the power supply, cooling and graphics work without surprises.

Which one suits you according to your monitor

  • 1080p at 144 Hz: RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB or RX 9060 XT 16 GB.

  • 1440p at 144-165 Hz: RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti (this one, if you want high ray tracing).

  • 4K or 1440p at 240 Hz: RTX 5080.

  • 4K with path tracing, streaming and AI: RTX 5090.

If you still doubt, in our PC configurator you can assemble the equipment piece by piece and see the estimated performance in your games, or write to us via chat and we will advise you.

Conclusion: RTX 50 or Radeon RX 9000?

For value at 1440p, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is hard to beat. If you want the best ray tracing, DLSS 4 and maximum performance in 4K, the RTX 50 are the safe choice, and in the high range they have no rival.
