GTA 6 PC: what's official, what's rumour and which PC to build for when it arrives
GTA 6 launches on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series only. We separate fact from rumour on the PC version (GamesBeat points to the first quarter of 2027), look at how long GTA V and RDR2 took to arrive and estimate which PC is worth building to play it.

In this article
GTA 6 PC still doesn't officially exist. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar hasn't announced a version for computers. The most concrete thing we have is a GamesBeat report from 13 October that places it in the first quarter of 2027, based on four anonymous sources. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed it, so for now it's a rumour.
Here's what's confirmed as of 26 October 2026, kept apart from what still isn't, how long GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 took to reach PC and which computer makes sense to build for when it arrives. As there are no official requirements, that last part is our own estimate, based on the console version and on what today's big open-world games ask for.
GTA 6 PC: what's official as of 26 October 2026
This is what Rockstar and its publisher, Take-Two, have announced or published:
Date and platforms: 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official GTA VI website makes no mention of PC.
Pre-orders on console only: they opened on 25 June. Digital copies and the physical edition (which comes with a download code in the box) can be pre-loaded from 12 November.
Take-Two doesn't include PC either: its 7 August results list GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and it is sticking to a net sales forecast of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion for its fiscal year, which ends on 31 March 2027.
No PC requirements or pre-orders: Rockstar hasn't published minimum or recommended specs, and the computer version can't be pre-ordered from any shop.
30 fps on console: Rob Nelson, one of the leads at Rockstar North, explained in August that the game was running at 30 fps on every console at that point, PS5 Pro included, and that a 60 fps mode was still to be decided.
The date has already moved twice: the game was announced for 2025, slipped to 26 May 2026 and then, in November 2025, to 19 November 2026. Take-Two reaffirmed it in August and pre-loading already has a date, so the console launch looks safe. On 27 August Rockstar also released almost half an hour of real gameplay, the first long look at the world of Leonida. This is the second official trailer:
The rumour: GTA 6 on PC in the first quarter of 2027
On 13 October, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar plans to release the PC version between January and March 2027, just a few months after the console one. It attributes this to four industry sources who know the studio's plans and asked not to be named. According to the same outlet, the PC version will have to clear the same quality bar as the console version before it ships. Rockstar didn't respond to its request for comment.
Why it makes sense
Server roleplay lives on PC. In August 2023 Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, the roleplay server platform for GTA V, which only runs on computers. GamesBeat sees the PC version as a necessary first step towards bringing roleplay to GTA VI and towards the content creation tools Rockstar has hinted at.
It fits Take-Two's calendar. Its fiscal year ends on 31 March 2027, so a PC release in the first quarter would fall in the same financial year as the console launch.
Why it should be taken with caution
The sources are anonymous and they only give a quarter, not a specific day.
Rockstar tends to announce its PC versions late: Red Dead Redemption 2's was announced on 4 October 2019, a month before release.
It isn't the first rumour: in April another one did the rounds pointing to February 2027, attributed to former Rockstar employees, and it wasn't confirmed either.
There's nothing official about the online mode either. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg in September that it will arrive in 2027, but Rockstar hasn't given a date.
9 November: the next date to watch
Take-Two reports its fiscal second-quarter results on Monday 9 November, after the market closes, with a conference call at 4.30pm New York time (10.30pm in Andorra), according to its investor notice. It's the company's last scheduled appearance before launch and the most logical moment to talk about new platforms, although there's no guarantee it will.
How long GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 took to reach PC
Rockstar has always released its big games on console first. These are the most recent precedents:
GTA IV: released on consoles on 29 April 2008 and on PC in December that year, about 7 months later. The PC version arrived with serious performance problems.
GTA V: PS3 and Xbox 360 on 17 September 2013; PS4 and Xbox One on 18 November 2014; PC on 14 April 2015, around 19 months after the original launch. The PC version was delayed three times: from autumn 2014 to 27 January, then to 24 March and finally to 14 April 2015.
Red Dead Redemption 2: PS4 and Xbox One on 26 October 2018; PC on 5 November 2019 on the Rockstar Games Launcher and other stores, and on Steam on 5 December. In other words, just over a year later.
If the GamesBeat report is right, GTA VI would reach PC two to four months after console, Rockstar's shortest wait since the series went 3D. If the GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 pattern repeated itself (12 to 19 months), we'd be looking at a date between late 2027 and mid-2028.
What the track record tells us
The wait usually brings improvements. GTA V arrived on PC with 4K resolution, more than 60 fps and the Rockstar Editor for recording and editing videos. Red Dead Redemption 2 added graphical improvements and new content, such as bounty hunting missions, gang hideouts and weapons.
The first few weeks can be bumpy. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PC with launcher errors and unexpected crashes; patch 1.14.1, released on 25 November 2019, fixed a dozen types of bug.
Requirements arrive shortly before launch. Until Rockstar publishes them, any figure, ours included, is an estimate.
If you want to know how Rockstar's latest open world runs today, our Red Dead Redemption 2 page shows the FPS our systems achieve.
GTA 6 PC requirements: our starting point
Without official requirements, the best starting point is the console. The PS5 has an 8-core Zen 2 processor running at up to 3.5 GHz, an RDNA 2 GPU of around 10.3 TFLOPS (broadly comparable to a desktop Radeon RX 6700) and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory shared between the system and the graphics. GTA VI is also coming to Xbox Series S, whose GPU is considerably less powerful, so the game is built to run on more modest graphics hardware.
Digital Foundry's analysis of the 27 August gameplay video, captured on a standard PS5, points to an internal resolution of around 1440p at a rock-solid 30 fps, with ray tracing for global illumination and reflections. Its team considers a 60 fps mode on current consoles “extremely unlikely” because of the load the world simulation (traffic, pedestrians, physics) puts on the processor, and warns that 60 fps on PC could demand especially powerful processors. Even the PS5 Pro, with a much faster GPU, keeps practically the same processor.
What big open worlds ask for on PC today
These are the official recommended requirements, according to Steam, for comparable games:
GTA V Enhanced (2025): Core i5-9600K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM, 8 GB RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT and 105 GB on an SSD, according to its Steam page. It includes ray tracing and upscaling.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (2019): Core i7-4770K or Ryzen 5 1500X, 12 GB, 6 GB GTX 1060 or RX 480 and 150 GB.
Crimson Desert (2026): Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K, 16 GB, RX 6700 XT or RTX 2080 and 180 GB on an SSD.
Monster Hunter Wilds (2025): Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB and RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600, but for 1080p at 60 fps on medium settings with frame generation enabled.
Cyberpunk 2077 (updated requirements): Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 16 GB and RTX 2060 Super, RX 5700 XT or Arc A770, with an SSD required.
The takeaway: the recommended graphics card in these games is moderate, but the processor goes up in the densest open worlds (Cyberpunk 2077 already lists a Ryzen 7 7800X3D), and Monster Hunter Wilds needs frame generation to reach 60 fps on its recommended hardware. Given what's known about the console version, it's reasonable to expect the processor to matter more than usual in GTA VI. You can see how our PCs perform in Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most demanding open worlds around.
Which PC to build for GTA 6: our estimate
What follows isn't a set of official requirements: it's our estimate based on the console version and on earlier games. When Rockstar publishes its own, they'll be the reference.
Four keys to getting it right
Processor first. Eight cores and, if possible, 3D cache, such as a Ryzen 7 7700X3D or a 9800X3D. Frame generation (DLSS 4 on Nvidia, FSR 4 on AMD) helps, but it works best when the game is already running smoothly: it's no substitute for a capable processor.
A graphics card with 12–16 GB of VRAM. PS5 and Xbox Series X share 16 GB between system and graphics, and open worlds with high-resolution textures punish 8 GB cards.
32 GB of DDR5 RAM. GTA V Enhanced recommends 16 GB, but several 2026 games already recommend 32 GB and a new PC should last several years.
A 2 TB NVMe SSD. There's no official install size. An unconfirmed leak mentions almost 200 GB on PS5; for reference, Red Dead Redemption 2 asks for 150 GB and Crimson Desert, 180 GB.
Three rough tiers
To play like on console or slightly better (1080p–1440p with upscaling): Ryzen 5 7600 or Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, 16 GB RTX 5060 Ti or 16 GB RX 9060 XT, 32 GB of DDR5, a 1–2 TB SSD and a 650 W 80 PLUS Gold power supply.
To aim for 1440p at 60 fps: Ryzen 7 7700X3D or 9800X3D, RX 9070 or 9070 XT, or alternatively RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti, 32 GB of DDR5-6000, a 2 TB SSD and a 750 W Gold power supply.
For 4K with ray tracing maxed out: Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D, RTX 5080 or RTX 5090, 32 GB of DDR5, a 2–4 TB SSD and an 850 to 1,000 W power supply depending on the graphics card.
To choose between Nvidia and AMD, see our RTX 50 vs Radeon RX 9000 comparison, and in our 2026 components guide we explain how the DDR5 memory crisis affects each part.
If you already have a PC
A system on par with 2026 recommended specs (a graphics card along the lines of an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT, a modern six-core processor and 16 GB of RAM) should be able to handle GTA VI at moderate settings, although that's an assumption until we see the requirements. If anything needs upgrading, it's most likely to be the processor. With an AM5 motherboard the swap is easy, because AMD has confirmed it will keep that socket until 2029.
Buy now or wait for the requirements?
If you only want the PC for GTA VI, the sensible thing is to wait for the official requirements: there's still no date and it's several months away at the earliest. But waiting has a cost too. According to market research firm TrendForce, DRAM contract prices will rise by another 10–15% in the last quarter of 2026, and the supply of PC memory could shrink in 2027. A middle-ground option is to build a solid base now (a processor with 3D cache, 32 GB of RAM and a good power supply) and hold off on the graphics card until the requirements are known. In the meantime, there's plenty to play: have a look at the best PC games of 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Not for now. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version, although GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 all eventually made it to computers.
When is GTA 6 coming out on PC?
There's no official date. A GamesBeat report from 13 October 2026 points to the first quarter of 2027, but it's an unconfirmed rumour. Going by Rockstar's track record, GTA V took around 19 months and Red Dead Redemption 2 just over a year.
What are the GTA 6 PC requirements?
Rockstar hasn't published them, so any list is an estimate. Ours, to play comfortably at 1440p: an 8-core processor (ideally with 3D cache), a 12–16 GB graphics card, 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB NVMe SSD.
Can I pre-order GTA 6 for PC?
No. Pre-orders, open since 25 June, are for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Be wary of any website selling keys or pre-orders for the PC version.
How much space will GTA 6 take up?
Rockstar hasn't given the size. An unconfirmed leak mentions almost 200 GB on PS5. For reference, Red Dead Redemption 2 asks for 150 GB on PC, so a 2 TB SSD is a good idea.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 fps on PC?
It'll depend on your system, and it isn't known yet. On console it runs at 30 fps, and Digital Foundry thinks 60 fps on PC will demand a very powerful processor. If you're planning to build a PC for GTA VI, prioritise the CPU.
